Child Assessment

Children need a tailored approach

Our goal in any assessment is to help parents, teachers, and everyone else understand your child. Our skills and experience working with neurodivergent children means that we can offer assessments that are specifically targeted understanding these differences. Both our psychoeducation and psychological assessments examine autistic characteristics and ADHD traits.

We offer several types of psychological assessments including:

  • psychoeducational assessments (focused on a child’s cognitive and academic skills)

  • psychological assessments (comprehensive assessments that include the above, as well as a thorough understanding of mental health)

  • gifted assessments

We also offer assessments by an occupational therapist. These can be focused on assessment or the functional needs of a child.

Fees: Our fee for assessments range depending on the referring question. Psychoeducational assessments are $3800.

When is an assessment needed?

Autism is an exceptionality in Ontario. This means that with a diagnosis, you are best able to advocate for your child’s needs. A diagnosis can also open avenues for supports and access to resources. If your child shows differences in the way the communicate, in making friends, or have behaviours that you do not fully understand, consider an assessment.

Re-assessment by a psychologist can be useful if you believe a prior assessment was conducted without a good understanding of neurodivergence. An assessment can also be useful if your child is struggling with their learning or mental health.

For our occupational therapy assessments, many autistic children often have sensory needs that go undetected. These assessments can help clarify these needs.
